Wolpy Blog

Comment other people’s travels

A lot of users requested us a way of communicate with other users, so we decided implemment a comment system.

Now, there is a page for each of your visited places (where, in the future you will be able to publish all your travel experience, like photos or tips) and there people can leave their comments.

This is, for example, the page of my visit to Tokio, with several comments.

Back from Barcelona

Back from the beautiful Barcelona where we attended the Startup 2.0 (congratulations to the winners: Zilok, UnLtdWorld and iFoods), we are now finishing a comment system for Wolpy, that will let you to contact with other users and ask them anything about their trips and visited places.

After that, we are going to focus on all the features requested by you these days: user search, an easy way of suggesting new places, several ways to order your visited places… We have so much work to do!

Oh! By the way, El País, one of the most important newspapers in Spain, has published an article about the three Spanish projects who were finalists in Startup 2.0: Bubok, Planetaki and Wolpy. Although they mispelled our names and age, it’s a cool article. You can read an automatic translated version here.

Wide maps for places pages

Dopplr (a web app for sharing with your friends your future travels) have just launched their “new Place screen headers with better communicating maps”. The have resized their map so that it will occupe the entire width of the page, just like in our place pages. I’m very glad they have arrived to the same design solution than us :)

When we were doing the first sketches of the place page our first idea was to insert a square map in the sidebar but, just one day before launching, when we were testing with some images for the header of the place page, the idea of using a wide version of the map as a header occours to us and decided to implement it. We are very happy with the result and several users have say us they like the idea very much. It makes the page more colourful and the map more useful.

PS: Of course, I’m not suggesting Dopplr copied our design. I doubt they even know us ;)

Search for places

We have added a search box for places in the header of each page in Wolpy. Many users had requested this feature and we had already planned to launch it soon after making Wolpy public.

By searching for a place you will also discover how many places on Earth have the same name. It’s very funny!

For example, did you know that there are 109 “springfield” in USA? or 39 “madrid” in the whole Earth? Of course, the main one is Madrid, Spain, visited by 55% of Wolpy users!

We hope that you all find this feature useful :)

Thank you, early adopters!

We are very excited about how our early preview was received by users, bloggers and friends everywhere. We wanted to thank you all for that. We appreciate a lot all the blog posts, tweets and mails received during this five days since we launched.

All the feedback received is very valuable and we are working hard on some new features inspired on it.
We have fixed several small bugs and also we released two small features you can enjoy now:

  • Enlarge your map. This allows you to see your map in full screen mode. Some of you asked for that and we agree it’s cool to see the map with your visited places this way. Here is an example of an enlarged map.
  • New reviews displayed in home page. If you want to see the fresh activity happening in Wolpy now we are listing last reviews and registered users in our home page.

We are also planning to launch, in a few days, a search engine for places. You will be able to search places by name and discover who have visited this location and read the reviews shared by the visitors.

One more time, thank you all! We are now more than 300 registered users in Wolpy and we hope to continue growing this community with your help!

Oh! I almost forget! We are participating in the Startup 2.0 contest, a competition of European startups where all the contestants are very interesting projects that make us feel very proud to be there, fighting for a position in the top 10, being only five days old. If you have enjoyed Wolpy, please, consider voting for us :)

Hello world!

It’s been a couple of months since we decided to create a web application for people to share their travels and now, after several days of intense private beta testing (thanks for all your feedback friends!), we are very glad to launch a public preview release of Wolpy.

For now we are basically a digital version of the typical push pin map of visited places, but in a few weeks we are planning to add a whole bunch of new features to let you share your travel experiences.

We’ve decided to give early access to the application because we really want your feedback. So sign up now and show off your friends and the whole world where you have been!

Enjoy Wolpy and keep an eye open to the great new features coming!
